Oh What a Beautiful Day.......I started out my day in the most pleasant way. I received a phone call from a lovely lady from Winston Salem, North Carolina. I had never met her before......but now feel like I have a new friend. After a wonderful half hour visit, it is finally time for me to visit with all of you. The sun is shining and after that chat my heart feels full!
I want to share with you the book I have pictured above. It was given to me a few years ago by a very dear friend. It is written by Douglas Wood, who lives in a cabin in the woods of Minnesota.
On the inside flap of the book is written....."Perhaps you'd like to know a secret, one of the happiest ones of all. You will surely find it for yourself one day. You'll discover it all on your own, maybe when you least expect it. If you've not yet discovered the secret of saying thanks, it's waiting for you. The secret can be found in the sunrise that offers promises for the day ahead, or in the gentle shade of a tree sheltering you from the hot rays of the sun, or on a rock that offers rest from a long walk".
The book is beautifully illustrated by Greg Shed. The story ends with these lines......"The heart that gives is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time. The more we say thanks, the more we find to be thankful for. And the more we find to be thankful for, the happier we become. We don't give thanks because we're happy. We are happy because we give thanks".. If and when I ever become a Grandmother I hope I am able to share this with my grand children at least once a year.
"When you read a book as a child, it becomes part or your identity....in a way that no other reading in your life does". -Meg Ryan
