A Rainy Spring Day

We expected rain in The Netherlands, but for the most part we enjoyed sunshine.  We had a little rain on the last day in Brussels.  Here in Utah we have really exceeded our rain fall average, and that is a good thing.  It has been a perfect day to stay inside and work on making kits.

This was the day we visited the Anne Frank house.  What a privilege!  It was very emotional and we all wondered what our role would have been if we were alive and living there during the war.  Would we have endangered our families and risked our lives to be a part of the Resistance.  Would we have stepped up to help those in need.  Of course we hoped that would have been are response.  Above our the words of Anne, a 15 year old girl.

A beautiful church we passed on our walk to the museum.  We walked miles every day.

Here we are on a canal tour...… a lovely experience.  Abbie took this picture of Bruce and I.

Along the canal were many house boats docked.  People live on them permanently.

View along the way.  Notice how blue the sky is.  The water looks dirty, but they dipped a glass full from the canal and it was really clear.

There is our dear Abbie setting up in the front like a hood ornament on a car.

Take a look at this narrow house.  Houses were taxed by their width, thus tall and narrow.  However, let me tell you the stairs in these structures are a real trick!  Very narrow and curved.  I have a picture coming up of the stairs in one of the Air B & B's we stayed in.  We really scored on all of the places we stayed.  Abbie spent hours planning this trip, and what a fine job she did.

A canal picture at dusk.  I think I scored on this one.

A carving in the window of a store front in the neighborhood where the Frank's lived.

We enjoyed our meals together.  This is at the end of a full day, and we were hungry......notice the empty plates.  On these occasion we could share our day.  Just the best!  We couldn't have wished for more, except wishing that Ben and Erin and little Wyatt could have been with us.  Maybe another time.  It would have been difficult to travel with a child.

Here is the same church tower from the beginning of the blog entry.  The difference, it is now 10:30 and Bruce and I are on our way to the hotel.  The 2 couples headed to a park.  I was more than ready for bed.

It seems appropriate to share another of Anne's quotes.  "Parents can only give good advise or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.  -Anne Frank

  1. Love the quote (of course) and seeing all the pictures especially the canal pictures. I think it sounds very romantic to live on a houseboat, don't you?
