Walkin in a winter wonder land.....

Isn't it beautiful?  Yes it is a winter wonder land! There is nothing like the first snows of winter.  They are simply exhilarating!  The snow here just stays where it lands, because there is usually no wind with it.  We all are hoping for record snow fall to fill our reservoirs with water in the spring.

It's time to enjoy the winter time quilts.  This quilt was in a book by Red Wagon called Snow Bound.  Jan Patek must have had a hand in the design, because it has the little snow children she uses today in many of her designs.  I checked out the label, and I made this quilt in 1993.  I believe it was one of my first attempts at appliqueing.  According to the label, that was the winter of the big snows.  The snow was over my 6 foot husbands head along our driveway.......it made shoveling difficult, but was a great winter for skiing.  All 3 of our children were skiing by then and it made for some good times........and now sweet memories.

Here the quilt is placed over the back of our most favorite napping chair.  We recline and tuck ourselves in........it's all part of living the good life.  I have valued the advice from Winnie the Pooh when he said, "Lets begin by taking a smallish nap or two".

  1. We woke up to a blanket of 5 inches of snow with more falling. Really pretty and so still. Only problem is the temperature which is 5 degrees. I am staying in and working on some applique. Have a wonderful day.

    1. Phyllis....that definitely sounds like a plan I could wrap my mind around......nothing better than staying home on a snowy day. I'm so thankful I have a choice.

  3. Oh goodness that's a pretty picture of snow and I'm guessing your backyard - gorgeous. We've had some beautiful snow the last couple of days - it's so pretty to look at. I LOVE that quilt - what a fun treasure. I find myself wanting to make so many of these treasures from the past. As always I love your quotes you end your posts with. Always an inspiring thought or two. Hugs - Karen

    1. Thank you Karen, I looked for you at market, then remembered that you usually attend the spring market. What are you plans for this spring? Can I look forward to seeing you in Pittsburg?

  4. Lucky YOU! We only got a skiff of snow - and the roads were dry. Hope we can catch up to your totals soon! That Jan Patek quilt is one of my favorites!

  5. Thanks Gayle....have you finished your hexagon project yet? I would love to see it. Snow in December is always such a thrill! I believe this snow really hit the hardest in central Utah.
