We tend to think of Memorial Day as the beginning of summer, and summertime activities. This day of remembering originated in the years following the Civil War when citizens wanted to remember the fallen soldiers. At that time it was simply called Decoration Day. In 1868 it became an official holiday.
Today I feel quite introspective remembering all of the sacrifices which have made for me, so that I can experience the freedoms which I enjoy and take for granted. Today is not only a day to honor and pay respects to the men and women who have died while in military service, but to honor those survivors who have returned home broken.
Here are some of the goodies I promised on the last blog. Kathy from Cardiff Farms is a lovely person whom I always look forward to seeing every market. This is her new Barn Quilt. It has some wonderful details.
She designs a plethora of amazing small projects.....
I love the charming red flower pillow on the right.
I'm finally getting back to normal, what ever that means.....:-)) I have all of my market stuff stored until needed once again....I've sent off quilts to a few shops and so today I think I'll do some gardening.
"Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day....unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear". -from Etsy
Thank you for such great sentiments about our military - I too, am so appreciative of the sacrifices made by our nation's men and women! They certainly deserve our heartfelt thanks.
