Vintage quilts.....

 

 

....or those made from reproduction thirties fabrics are some of my favorite.  I remember when I first saw the first Aunt Gracie's fabrics......it was love at first sight.  I have made a few of them and my daughters love them.....they have each chosen at least one to enjoy in their homes.

 

 

This is one of the first quilts I made from the thirties reproduction fabrics.  I hand pieced all of the blocks, and this was accomplished over many years.  It was my "go to" project to take with me on car trips.  In 1997, Bruce and I were fortunate to take a trip to Europe with my sister and her husband and another couple who were mutual friends.  Some of these blocks traveled with me.  A quilter never wants to be without stitching.  In fact my friend Leslie is now in Europe and the greater part of what she took with her was hand work.

 

A close up of the blocks.  I have also collected feed sacks over the years, and you can find some of these in the quilt also.  When I initially started to work with the thirties fabrics I shied away from using blacks.  That has changed.  I now love to throw in a few blacks, because I believe it gives the quilt and aged look.

 

 

After the quilt was quilted and then washed.....it became nice and soft and pliable.....perfect for cozy sleeping and also, the washing and drying process helps it to look worn and loved......which this quilt is.
