Spring's Arrival

"There are no birds in last year's nest."
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Pan, who and what art thou?” he cried huskily. “I’m youth, I’m joy” Peter answered at a venture,
“I’m a little bird that has broken out of the egg.”

- J.M Barrie, Peter Pan

A few years ago I had a finch that built her nest in a twiggy wreath on my door. And then, she laid her eggs in the nest. Of course we could no longer use the front door, because we didn’t wish to interrupt this marvelous event.  This story does not have a happy ending, unfortunately. Before long a magpie found the nest and destroyed her eggs.
