Blackberry Primitives

Happy Halloween Every One.....I will miss not making pumpkin donuts with my daughter Abbie this year.  She is the daughter I helped move out to Ohio this summer.  When we last spoke she was going to make them and share with her new neighbors.  The recipe came from Cuisine at home magazine.  I'll share the recipe with you so that you can make your own.......they are wonderfully delicious.  The recipe makes 18 doughnuts and holes.  1 egg, 1 egg yolk, 1 cup pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 3 Tab. butter melted, 4 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. baking soda.  Mix the above ingreds. together and fold in 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour and fry in veg. oil.   The dough will be sticky, so cover with plastic wrap and stick it in the freezer from 15 - 30 minutes.  We heat approx. 2 -3 inches of veg. oil in an electric skillet to approx. 370 degrees.    Pat out the dough on a well floured surface to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with a floured cutter.  Transfer the doughnuts and holes to a floured baking sheet using a spatula that also has been dusted with flour.  It takes about 3 minutes to fry the doughnuts, turning once.  The holes will cook faster.  Drain on a paper towel and we finish them by rolling them in a cinn. sugar mixture.  They are also good frosted with icing made from powdered sugar and apple cider.

Blackberry Primitives was just one aisle over from me and so I enjoyed visiting with them.  They have beautiful hand dyed wools and velvets........yummy, wonderful colors!  They did this design of Maggie Bonanomi in their wools and velvets.  They also have some of their own designs for wool.  In their booth there were pin keeps and primitive animals and such.  Unique things.  If I were a better photographer and more computer savey I would be able to put more photos on to show you.  I have a couple of people I'm hoping will come to my aide and teach me a thing or two so that I can do a better job on my blog.  Until then I'm hoping you will all be patient with me.  Enough said on that subject.  I hope to start accenting a bit with some velvet, and see what that is like to work with.

From simple things come simple joys......have a joyful and delightful, wonderfully spooky and candy filled Halloween......plus try the doughnuts, you will love them and they are not that difficult to make.  P. S. Watch out for your dog and the chocolate!!!:-)

  2. Blackberry Primitives is a wonderful on line place to do business. I have not tried their velvet yet, but their wool is great. Your blog and your designs are well worth time spent here. Doesn't matter that there is a learning curve for technology!
