Where I sew.....

I have a lovely cozy place to sew and create which makes me very happy.  My sweet son in law Chad has put awesome shelving in the closet and then made me a gigantic table in my cutting room with a bunch more shelves.  The table he created for me was so large that it came in two pieces so that it would fit down my basement stairs......anyway, I'm all set up with a great space to cut kits and do my thing!  My kids set me up with Pandora so that I can listen to beautiful music as I sew.......what more could I possibly want, my cup runneth over! :-)

Even though my sewing room is in the basement, there are very deep and large window wells which bring in an abundance of light, and that's a good thing.  Here is the angel I brought back from the Country Living Fair we attended in Rhinebeck, New York.  She is one of my treasures.

The little baskets are for holding various sewing notions, thread a pattern set, and one is nearly full of Dear Jane blocks.

I didn't picture all of the sets of drawers like this that I have, but there are several.  I store fat quarters and such in these.

This is my sewing spot with my ironing board close by.  The photo on the wall is a favorite, it was taken by Jess my son in law who is a photographer.  It is a photo he took while he and my daughter were visiting in the Philippines. It is an open window with an old black sewing machine and a stack of fabric placed there. There are women who love what we do the world over.  A few years back, Katrina, Abbie and I visited Viet Nam and we taking a boat trip down the Me Kong Delta and there were people who lived on simple boats.  We saw a Grandmothers Flower Garden hanging from a cloths line on one of these boats.....it was really thrilling for us.

Here is a nifty board with a clip to set by my machine to hold directions while you are sewing.....I find it helpful.

A wonderful old blackboard I found at a thrift shop.

The heart hanging on the wall is another one of my treasures.  It was made by the potter Ben Behunin. I have shared other pieces of his pottery on previous blogs.  Also, notice another of my treasures sitting on the perch hanging from the ceiling.  It is a wonderful folk art hand painted and crafted bird which I purchased when we visited the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio.

Some of my favorite reading material.  I never tire looking at my quilt books.  Take notice of the mom sign made by my son many moons ago......still something I treasure.

I've inherited this piece of furniture from my daughter and it holds lots of essentials.  I would someday like to make a quilted piece to put in the door where the mirror is.

I love this quilt which is one of Jan Patek's earlier designs.  The antique laundry basket holds all of my cotton fabric scraps.

And here is my cutting table.  I have some Buttermilk Farm blocks which I have been working on.

My mother's old ironing board.

An old copper boiler holds my home spun scraps.  I have a cork floor which Chad and Abbie installed for me, and I love it.

My design wall.

Chad's handiwork for some of my fabric stash.

Another treasure I picked up at a thrift store in Ohio.....and in the background you can see a bunch of the shelves Chad built for me.

You can see what I mean by a gigantic cutting table.  All of my wool is stored on shelves beneath the table.  Nothing fancy but I'm as pleased as punch! :-)

Fabric for cutting kits and for more creating!  A girl can't have too much, can she???  So now you know where I spend a large majority of my time.

"Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it."  -Ann De Lenclos

This is how fresh spring mornings appeal to me.

  8. Wow what a great space for sewing and creating. Love your shelving and your cutting table but most envious of your easy to care for cork floor, so much better than carpet.

  12. What a fun tour of your sewing space. I just gave away a twin bed and replaced it with some Ikea storage units. It's wonderful to have everything organized. Finding things easier and quicker makes for more stitching time. I'm also working on the Buttermilk Basin blocks. Looked for the new one earlier today but not there yet.
