Traveling through Iowa......

A comment from one of the readers of my blog, has informed us that there is a great quilt shop in Hills, Iowa.  I guess I had better get out my map and find just where that is at.

This is the Bed and Breakfast we stayed at during our visit at the Amana Colonies.

It was one of the original homes.  It was a quiet restful place.  It was Fall while we visited so we were not tempted to use the pool outside in the back.

It was early Fall and very few leaves had began their transformation into the Autumn colors which make this area so very beautiful in October.  In fact while we were there we dodged in and out of cloud bursts.

I would definitely recommend staying here.  It was not over priced at all.  The bathroom was large and very sparkly clean with a walk in shower and then there was a large Jacuzzi tub for two in our room.  I didn't try that out however.

This couch with the old quilt was in a sitting room just outside the room.  There was a closet full of movies for our viewing pleasure.

Of course there needed to be a close up of the quilt.

This photo was taken of the area at the end of the kitchen where we enjoyed a very scrumptious breakfast.

I loved the original wood floors and the exposed brick walls.

Warm and inviting!

Yum!  A cinnamon muffin hot from the oven, with fried cinnamon apples over the top.  Egg and sausage scramble, fried German potatoes, and fresh fruit garnish.  A most hearty start to our day.

Before leaving, we discovered that the lady who managed the B & B and who lives in the home, had just started quilting.  She was pleased to share her first quilt with us.......pleasant memories.  I hope for a return visit.

  1. Too bad you didn't know about the shop in Hills - it was my favorite! But, she just retired, and is now closed.

  2. Love following you around(on the net) on your travels. If you are ever in Wisconsin, you should go to Village Creek in Lodi, WI. This is my favorite shop. I think you would enjoy visiting with Patti and her staff.
